Curcumin is the compound that makes turmeric valuable — it’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and the reason your grandmother put haldi in everything. But here’s what most people don’t know: the turmeric sold in supermarkets contains just 2–3% curcumin. Lakadong turmeric, grown in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, naturally contains 3–4x that amount. Our batch is lab tested at 10.52% curcumin. That’s not marketing — it’s a lab report.
What Makes Lakadong Different
Origin: Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. This specific microclimate produces turmeric with curcumin levels that plains-grown turmeric simply cannot match.
Curcumin: 10.52% — lab tested. Regular market haldi sits at 2–3%. Even Nagpur’s Sugandha variety (which we also sell) reaches 4–5%. Lakadong is in a different league.
Colour: Slightly darker than regular haldi. This deeper shade is natural and indicates higher curcumin concentration. If your turmeric is bright neon yellow, question what’s been added to it.
Taste: Earthy, slightly bitter, with a warmth that regular turmeric lacks. You’ll use less because it’s stronger.

The Turmeric Adulteration Problem in India
India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of turmeric. It’s also where turmeric adulteration is most rampant. Lead chromate (for bright yellow colour), metanil yellow dye, and starch are commonly added to bulk up cheap turmeric. Lakadong turmeric’s slightly darker shade is actually reassuring — it hasn’t been artificially brightened. Our batches are lab tested for purity and curcumin content.
