How to use

Hing crystals are highly aromatic, so begin with a very small piece. Crush the required quantity before use, or soften it in a little warm water. Add during tempering with oil or ghee so the aroma distributes evenly through the dish.

Storage

Keep the jar tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry place. The strong aroma can transfer to nearby foods if the container is left open. Natural hardening of the resin over time is normal.

Method 1 — Crush & add: Take a tiny crystal and crush it between two spoons or with a mortar-pestle. Add the crushed piece directly to hot oil during tadka. It will dissolve and release its aroma instantly.

Method 2 — Dissolve in water: Drop a small crystal in a teaspoon of warm water. Let it dissolve for 2–3 minutes. Add this liquid to your dish. This gives a more even distribution of flavour.

Start small. A crystal the size of a mustard seed is enough for an entire dal or sabji. You can always add more, but you can’t take it back.
